HISTORY

Thailand is often seen as a country of amazing beaches,
famous temples and cordial people.

Nevertheless, in the North-East of the country, there are
extremely poor regions, which are often flooded and destroyed
by the Mekong river or hit by long periods of drought.

These regions are ignored by Thailand’s development plan:
it’s inhabitants suffer of constant poverty and malnutrition.
As the annual budget of a family doesn’t exceed CHF 350.- a year,
in order to survive, the children are forced to help their
parents in the agricultural labor from their youngest age.

The founder of Diichai knows Thailand thanks to an Asian
Association which formerly had its quarters in Geneva,
and of which she has been vice-president for several years.

During her frequent visits to Thailand, Madame Jacqueline Kocher,
founder of Diichai, has become aware of the grinding poverty that
exists just away from the tourists’ beaten path.

She thus acquired considerable experience, which permitted the realization of important projects between 2000 and 2005 by her own private investment. For instance, she helped in the construction of a health care center, a canteen, a book shop and a waterworks for the supplying of drinking water in a school, as well as for the purchase of school material, clothing and food.
This past personal experience gave Madame Kocher enough confidence to found the Diichai Association with the goal of extending vital aid to new regions.
However, it is only by your generous support that this project can be achieved, so that these children may avoid the horror of street life, drugs, prostitution and forced labor, and finally accede to a better future.
