Objectives 2008
Our latest trip to visit the schools near Khon Kaen
showed us that there is still much misery in this region.
We were particularly impressed by the situation
of Phong Phi Yo M1 school some twenty kilometers
away from Khon Kaen : The rain season lasting from August
through October made the classrooms flood as the school
is built on 1 meter high pillars. The schoolchildren are therefore
not able to enter the establishment to follow up on courses.
This situation is in fact very dramatic for those children
which prepare for exams in this period of time.
An approximation of amount was given us to repair
and reconstruct partially the school. It amounts to CHF 11,000.-.
It takes into consideration building materials which can be recycled
and to construct pillars of 3,5 meters length in view of new inundations.
The refurbishing will last about a month and should be finished by the start
of the rain season.
Our efforts aim to have this school be again used so that
the already disfavoured children can find a friendly environment.
The director of the University of Khon Kaen, Mr Somnuk Pinthong,
informed us about other schools being in a complete deprivation :
not enough drinking water, minimal schooling material, insufficient food,
and extremely restricted means of teaching.
Our project is in visiting two new schools and to bring our support.
